Another example of the extremely scarce 1967 Topps proof issue this set was produced with the intention of creating pinback buttons in 1967 (and again in 1968). Having never seen the light of day a few examples made their way out into the collecting world including this example of Hall of Fame legend Juan Marichal. Marichal"s face adorns this button art atop a bold yellow background with the typical silver foil "waste area" that was to be cut away forming the circular art that would become the button"s face.Just four copies of the Juan Marichal disc have made their way through the grading company corridors. This one inaccurately labeled by PSA as a "SF Giants Test Disc " is interchangeable with the actual SF Giants Marichal we also feature in this auction (we submitted both cards for grading) so for the purpose of population reports the figure of 4 total graded copies is accurate. You will note that the PSA pop report reflects one copy of Marichal graded a 7; that copy is the only 1967 Topps Disc to attain a numerical grade with PSA as they have elected to grade each of these proof cards as AUTHENTIC. SGC assigns numerical grades to these unlike many other proof cards that they grade. This particular example is in outstanding shape for the issue with wear as typical on the foil portion. Still an excellent opportunity to obtain a rare and very desirable type card of one of just ten Hall of Famers available in this issue.
