Gorgeous studio cabinet featuring 13 members of the 1887 Minneapolis Millers, along with team owner R.O. Foster (pictured in street clothes), the photo bearing the advertisement of Rugg Studios, owned by photographer Arthur Rugg.  During the time the photograph was taken, Rugg was one of the leading photographers in Minneapolis, though he later became involved in a major lawsuit that resulted in a Minneapolis Supreme Court decision dealing with the ownership of photo negatives taken by the studio.

As for the Millers, members of the Out of the Park Baseball forum have done some outstanding work in identifying the members of the team in this photo.  Likely subjects are as follows: BACK ROW (L-R): Jim McKeever, George Winkelman, John Moriarty, Robert Foster, Owen Patton, John Shaw, Charles Willis, FRONT ROW (L-R): Miah Murray, George Ganzel, Elias Peak, Elmer Foster, Bill Hawes, William Tuckerman, George Meister.  The photo originated from the estate of speedy outfielder Elmer Foster, who was known in Minneapolis for assaulting a Minneapolis Tribune journalist in 1890 for his criticism of an ice rink that Foster had set up at the Millers' ballpark.  The image quality is outstanding, with excellent contrast and clarity, well-protected by the cardboard mount.  The mount itself exhibits a bit of wear, with some light surface wear, the majority of which is noted on the reverse of the piece.  An outstanding team photo featuring a number of players with major league service.
