August 1927 letter from Walter Johnson to a Charles Haskins, thanking him for a recent letter and well-wishes. The letter references Johnson's broken leg, suffered when he was hit by a line drive during spring training. The injury essentially ended Johnson's career, as he managed to play in just 18 games in 1927. The letter, on Johnson's stationery, exhibits age-related toning, with discoloration at the folds and a few areas where the paper appears lighter, perhaps due to scrapbook mounting. It is professionally matted and framed alongside a photo print of Johnson, framed to a finished size of 19 1/2" x 14 1/2". The frame, of course, prevents us from examining the edges and back of the letter. The signature is strong and legible, with some ink skipping on the "W" in "Walter."
