Intruiging 7" x 9" original news service photo of superstars Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra signing a baseball for 19-year-old Crown Prince Akihito of Japan. Akihito visited the Yankees on September 16, 1953 for a twi-night doubleheader against the visiting St. Louis Browns. Mantle, Akihito, and Berra are flanked by John F. Simmons, Chief of Protocol for the State Department to their left, and Dan Topping, Yankees co-owner to their right. This was the first of at least two visits by Akihito to Yankee Stadium, with the other we're aware of occurring several years later in 1960. Handsome, bold photo remains in exemplary condition overall with bright white borders and verso with large reversed paper caption affixed. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
