Fabulous 3.5" x 5" portrait photograph of a beaming Roy Campanella. Here, the future Hall of Fame catcher is pictured during a season that resulted in his second (of three) MVP awards while becoming the very first major league catcher to eclipse 40 home runs in a season. A lifetime Dodger, Campanella's teams were responsible for five National League pennants and defeated the New York Yankees in the 1955 World Series, falling short against them in '49, '52. '53, and '56. A vivid depiction of Campanella, photo exhibits bright white borders with typical gentle wear to the corners. Verso includes various handwritten notations in both pencil and ballpoint along with pasted newspaper clippings of the identical image. Two date stamps appear, with the earliest from July, 1953 and the other from July, 1964. This photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has remained for several decades until the time of this sale. Authenticated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
