Chicago Cubs future Hall of Fame second baseman Johnny Evers stands with pitcher Lew Richie in this original 5" x 7" glass plate negative from George Grantham Bain. A photographer from Bain's service has captured the duo in their dark 1911-12 away uniforms at the Polo Grounds, presumably prior to a contest with the New York Giants. Incredibly, the delicate glass plate negative has remained in magnificent condition with light discoloration towards the upper-left corner and a tiny spot of emulsion loss by Evers' nose existing as the only blemishes of note. A very small paper label has also been affixed to the far upper-left corner. Hand-etching of each player's last name appears at the top edge with Bain's etched catalog number running vertically up the right side. A one-of-a-kind piece of history pulled directly from the camera of a Deadball Era press photographer.
