The 1950-51 Denia issue was a 394-card set produced by a manufacturer of powdered milk in Puerto Rico. The blank-backed cards were intended to be affixed to an accompanying album with a small number of cards offering a prize redemption on the reverse as well. Today the set is considered the most difficult of all the Puerto Rican card issues produced in this era. In fact, it is theorized that more than 50 cards from the set remain undiscovered and are thus uncatalogued. As a result of the scarcity, the cards have become particularly desirable.

Presented here is one of the absolute key cards to the issue, of the great Hall of Famer Leon Day.  Recognized as a pitcher, Day was a versatile athlete who could play every position except catcher, and often was still in the starting lineup when not pitching.  Day had a lengthy career in the Negro Leagues and the Puerto Rican Winter League as well.  During his career he also played in Mexico and Venezuela.  In 1937 with the Newark Eagles, Day batted over .300 while posting a pitching won-loss record of 13-0.  Day missed three seasons while serving in WWII, and returned to pitch a no-hitter on Opening Day, 1946, against the Philadelphia Stars.

The card has been graded POOR 1 by SGC due to visible wear, staining and creasing.  The importance of the card, however, lies in its rarity and the desirability of this subject.  In an era where baseball fans are recognizing the value and the athletic achievements of Shohei Ohtani by comparing him to Babe Ruth, Ohtani's true comparison should be Leon Day, who was a two-way player for his entire Hall of Fame career.
