Ol' Satch was a baseball legend well before he played in the major leagues. He first pitched in the Negro Leagues in 1926 and would make his major league debut with Cleveland in 1948 at the ripe age of 41. Paige threw his last major league pitch in 1965, for the Athletics, his first big league appearance since 1953. At age 59, he concluded in the minors in 1966, a 40-year pitching career unmatched in history and was the inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. He passed away in 1982 at the age of 75.
1953 is where we find him here, his wizened face caught in a contemplative moment by Topps, on a card with some corner wear and off-centering but wonderful color still. His emphatic signature is in black Sharpie and nicely done. PSA/DNA AUTHENTIC for an authentic legend.
