Beautiful advertising piece for Allen & Ginter "Richmond Gem" straight cut cigarettes (and "other well known brands" featuring a distinguished-looking gentleman puffing on a cigarette with a smile on his face. The piece measures approximately 5" x 7" and features advertising copy on the reverse touting Allen & Ginter products as a "Standard Article" throughout the world. The piece is mildly toned with some pronounced corner wear and edge chipping along with some slight staining on the upper left of the card and on the lower left section of the reverse. The most prominent condition issue however is a heavy diagonal crease at the lower left corner beginning roughly halfway up the left border and traversing to the bottom edge of the card. On the reverse of the card the crease has been reinforced with clear tape leading us to believe that the crease may have significantly weakened or even torn the card in places. Despite this issue tobacco advertising from the 19th Century is highly collectible with lovely typography and illustrations reflective of the fashions and design sense of the period. This is no exception an outstanding companion to any Allen & Ginter card issue from the era.
