1913 was a season of big changes for New York’s American League franchise. Not only did the “Highlanders” migrate south from their home at Hilltop Park, becoming co-tenants of the Polo Grounds along with the New York Giants, they also officially adopted the “Yankees” moniker for the very first time. An incredible piece of Yankees history, the offered photograph captures 22 members of the team plus their manager and Hall of Famer, Frank Chance, while seated at their new facility. Though the team wore identical uniforms in 1913 and 1914 this photo can be conclusively dated to 1913 based upon the presence of both John Knight and Harry Wolter, who did not play for the Yankees in ’14.

While this photo was developed directly from the original negative and remains a vintage example, it was created sometime during the 1930’s which classifies it as a Type 2 photo according to PSA’s authentication system. This photograph remains in impeccable overall condition with virtually no perceptible wear to the surface or corners. Central image is highly detailed and features beautifully sharp focus and contrast. Verso does include paper remnants adhered to the corners but is otherwise clean and bright. Pencil notations appear at the top with a purple Brown Brothers stamp at center. Measures 6.5" x 8.5". Encapsulated as a Type 2 photo by PSA/DNA.
