One of the more interesting variations in the T206 issue relates to some Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, and EPDG cards of Bud Sharpe.  On a small number of the cards, the name "Sharpe" is missing the lower leg in the letter "R," creating the appearance of the name "SHAPPE."  Similar in nature to the "Nodgrass" error, the Shape card is a recognized variation within the T206 issue, and yet a variation that is not without controversy.  Recognizing the potential for increased dollars on sales of an otherwise common card, nefarious card doctor types began experimenting with ways of removing the lower leg of the "R" on ordinary Sharpe cards, and a few such alterations made unfortunately made it through and into grading company holders.  This example has been stored away in the collection of a longtime hobbyist who passed away some time ago; we submitted it to SGC just recently to verify the authenticity of this example.  The grade of GOOD+ 2.5 relates to some visible surface wear, the card appears strong otherwise, and with this variation, a very difficult reverse.
