Absolutely stunning original cabinet photograph of St. Louis Browns pitcher, Barney Pelty "The Yiddish Curver." Prolific early baseball photographer, Carl Horner has posed Pelty at his studio and the bright white mount bears Horner's stamping in the lower-right corner. Typical of Carl Horner's work, this is an arrestingly beautiful portrait, framed quite nicely by the high-quality mount on which it rests. Surface of the photo itself is in wonderful condition and free of surface imperfections aside from a few small spots of soiling mostly relegated to the top-right corner. Thick mount has stood the test of time with three of the four corners just slightly rounded. Verso is clean and blank aside from a pencil notation identifying Mr. Pelty. One of several pieces in our 10th Anniversary Auction emanating directly from the estate of Barney Pelty where they have remained until the time of this sale.
