Giants third baseman Mel Ott poses with Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig before Game 1 of the 1936 World Series in this spectacular news service photo from International. It was the first of two consecutive World Series battles fought between the New York teams, with the Yankees besting the Giants both times – first in six games during the 1936 World Series, then across five games in the 1937 iteration. Both men are proudly displaying their "pet war clubs" in this image, which accounted for an astounding 1004 home runs between these Hall of Famers across their careers. Photo remains clean and bright with a small crease in the lower-right corner. The names of both players have been written in ballpoint within the bottom border. Unobtrusive paper remnants are affixed to all four corners of verso where a large, black International News stamp appears. Pencil notations are included at the top identifying Ott and Gehrig along with the date this image was captured. Measures 6.5” x 8.5”. Encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA. Hillerich & Bradsby's 1936 Famous Sluggers yearbook cover shown for illustration purposes only and is not included.
