Fantastic early cabinet photograph featuring the 1902 "Cairo Base Ball Club, Champions of Southern Illinois" as inscribed in pencil at top of the mount. Future major leaguers Barney Pelty (second from L, middle row) and King Brockett (first from L, middle row) are present in the stunningly clear image complete with wonderful period equipment and details. Pitcher Barney Pelty would make his major league debut with the St. Louis Browns the following season, enjoying a ten-season major league career, all with the Browns. Lewis Albert "King" Brockett appeared during parts of three seasons with the New York Highlanders in 1907, 1909, and 1911, mostly as a pitcher. Sloan Studio blind stamping appears in the lower-right corner of mount which suffers from moderate chipping and toning around the edges. Bottom of mount includes handwritten last name and position identifiers of all individuals present in the photo. Verso displays heavy toning and is otherwise blank. Overall dimensions of approx. 9" x 11" with the photo measuring 6.25" x 8.25"
