The inexplicable recipient of a VG 40 grade this card of catcher Pete Sommers exhibits all the characteristics of a higher-grade card including square corners sharp edges very little surface wear (and quite a bit of gloss). The reverse on which is printed nothing has some minor staining and a very faint crease at the top a crease which is not at all visible from the front. A day of writing auction descriptions of N172 cards will quickly clue one in as to how strange the numerical grading system with respect to these cards can be and at the same time it provides collectors with an outstanding opportunity to procure very attractive cards at collector-grade prices.
