George Gray worked as a photographer beginning in at least 1882, operating from a studio on Tremont Row in Boston for some time. A number of baseball cabinet photos originated from that studio, notably most of the National League players in the 1887 Old Judge set, but many others as well. Presented is an elegantly-posed cabinet of a player identified in handwriting on the reverse as Geo. Sager (or perhaps Sayer), wearing the uniform of a Warren team (there are "Warrens" in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire AND Rhode Island, all within reasonable distance of Boston, though MA and RI are closest). The image appears strong and clear, Sager's ring-style bat clear and detailed, the familiar ballpark studio backdrop behind him. Wear is evident at the corners and edges, along with some moderate surface wear and very minor foxing within the image.
