Original 5" x 7" Goodwin & Co. glass plate negative emanating from the "Vermont Find." Third baseman John Doran is depicted in an upright fielding pose with the 1888 Omaha Omahogs of the Western Association. This image served as the source material for Burns' N172 Old Judge card numbered 131-2. As with the other Doran negative in this sale (in a crouched fielding pose), just a small bit of brownish toning can be spotted in the corners of the negative while the central image remains stunningly crisp. This image also offers a rare hint at how the painted studio backgrounds for these photos were set up, as the metal background support is clearly visible to the left of Doran's feet.
