The PC796 issue is one of the most visually appealing and widely collected postcard sets featuring baseball players of the period, despite its scarcity.  Issued in 1910 by an unknown manufacturer, this set mirrors the Novelty Cutlery postcard set and utilizes many images seen in different baseball card and baseball supplement sets.  Throughout our ten-year history we have featured a not-insignificant number of cards from the set, but this is the first we have offered of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank.  Deceptively scarce, SGC has graded just 12 examples, this one assessed at the POOR 1 level due to postal use and writing on both front and back (mailed in December of 1910).  The image of Plank is clear and attractive, a close-up short of him posed as if in mid-windup.  Corner and edge wear is also evident, as is some toning on the reverse.  A significant card from one of the era's most coveted baseball postcard sets.
