Oversized premiums that were offered by the Goudey Gum Company in 1939.  Tough to find in high grade, the cards were printed on flimsy, thin paper and distributed to store owners, likely used as premiums to encourage the sale of Goudey or Diamond Stars gum.  The oversized cards are generally susceptible to a host of condition issues from general corner and edge wear to folds, pinholes and tape marks from Depression-era youngsters displaying the cards on their walls.  Easily the key card in the R303 sets, the Yankee Clipper is depicted here in portrait format, just a few years removed from his rookie season.  Graded GOOD 2 by PSA, the card presents much stronger, but a tiny edge tear at the bottom edge, not even large enough to encroach into the image area of the card, keeps it from a higher technical grade.
