An all-time classic Charles Conlon image, this shot of center fielder Clyde Milan was captured at Hilltop Park in Upper Manhattan during the 1911 season. Milan is posed in the outfield, reaching for a make-believe baseball with three distinct apartment buildings looming overhead. These buildings are ubiquitous to news service photos shot at Hilltop Park from 1909-1912 and still stand today. Clyde Milan spent the entirety of his 16-year career with Washington and was a lauded base stealer, even ousting Ty Cobb as the AL's stolen base leader with his 88 steals in 1912. In-fact Milan ranks 3rd among the AL's Deadball Era stolen base leaders, only bested by Cobb (765) and Eddie Collins (564). Photo measures approx. 8" x 10" suffers from heavy chipping along the corners and edges though the central image remains untouched. Verso includes several areas where clear tape has been affixed. Photographer Charles Conlon's personal stamp is present, along with Conlon's handwritten notations identifying Milan.
