Voted "The Greatest Athlete of the First Half of the Century" by the Associated Press, two-sport professional athlete Jim Thorpe's 12-season pro football career was honored in 1963 when he was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame's inaugural class. Though his pro football career certainly outshined his baseball accomplishments, that didn't stop Thorpe from competing for three major league teams (Giants, Reds, Braves) over six seasons from 1913-1919. This 5x7 posed batting image of Thorpe is a from a series of New York Giants photos shot by George Grantham Bain's news photo service during spring training 1914 in Marlin Springs, TX. Several extant photos from this series include an April 18, 1914 date stamp as seen here on verso. Verso also includes Culver paper tags, various Culver stamps and handwritten notations. Encapsulated as a Type 1 Photo by PSA/DNA.
