.Interesting 14" x 20 1/2" advertising poster advertising New Departure coaster brakes, featuring William Bendix as Babe Ruth in full Yankee pinstripes, riding a bicycle. New Departure was a brand of bicycle brakes manufactured by General Motors and advertised primarily in the mid-1950s, though this poster appears to date to the 1948 release of the film The Babe Ruth Story. Part of a series of posters that mostly featured children or pinup-style models, only this and a later poster featuring Bob Lemon (as sold in our Spring, 2021 sale) the only we have uncovered featuring a celebrity endorser. Bright orange backgrounds offset a black and white photo, printed on lightweight, almost newsprint paper. Some corner wear and a few small edge tears (notably at the bottom-right) are evident, along with heavy creases as the poster has lived its life folded into quarters.
