Running back Lydell Mitchell was considered one of the finest running backs in the NFL in the mid-70s, teaming with quarterback Bert Jones to win three consecutive AFC East titles, and rushing for 1,000 or more yards in three seasons between 1975 and 1977, reaching the Pro Bowl each year.  An excellent receiving back, Mitchell led the NFL in receptions in both 1974 and 1977, and finishing his career with 6,534 lifetime rushing yards.

Presented here is a game-worn Rawlings size 7 1/8 - 7 1/4 helmet from the collection of former Baltimore broadcaster Ted Patterson.  Signed by Mitchell, the helmet exhibits heavy wear, including a significant amount of paint marks, the striping beginning to separate from the helmet slightly.  Mitchell has signed the helmet on the left side, in large, black marker.  The inside padded headband has come loose from the helmet, though the padding is all intact.  Full LOA from MEARS.
