Long and light Louisville Slugger used between 1969 and 1971 by Detroit Tigers fan favorite pinch hitter Gates Brown. Brown batted .370 in limited duty during the Tigers' championship season of 1968 during which time he was fined $100 for an incident where he grabbed two hot dogs from the clubhouse and was called to pinch hit just as he was about to eat. He stuffed the hot dogs into his jersey to hide them from manager Mayo Smith ripped a double and after sliding head first into second came up covered in hot dog and condiments. Brown holds the American League record for most pinch hit at bats in his career with 414. He collected 107 pinch hits in his career leading the American League in pinch hits in 1968 and 1974. This bat measures 34 1/2" inches in length weighing less than 30 ounces. The Louisville Slugger moderl C242L exhibits strong signs of use with a handle crack receiving a grade of GU 8.5 from John Taube of PSA/DNA. From the collection of Ted Patterson.
