Outstanding original cartoon illustration by sports cartoonist Bill Pevear dating to 1957-59. Measuring approximately 10 3/4" x 12" the pen-and-ink illustration features a portrait of Cobb as well as a rendition of the famous Conlon "Cobb sliding" image along with a number of career highlights. Pevear was a Massachusetts-based cartoonist who passed away in 2004 and whose art made its way into the hobby at roughly the same time. This piece displays remarkably well with thumbtack holes appearing in each corner light strips of what appears to be tape remnants appearing at the top and bottom edges. The reverse contains some editorial notations as well as a few date stamps (June 13 1957 and June 13 1959). An outstanding display featuring one of the hobby's most collectible players and an illustration of one of his most famous photographs.
