Grouping of ten cards from the 1952 Topps high-number series that have all been graded AUTHENTIC by SGC. The cards included are as follows: #342 Clem Labine #346 George Spencer #357 Smoky Burgess #359 Dee Fondy #378 Les Fusselman #384 Frankie Crosetti #386 Eddie Yuhas #389 Ben Wade #399 Jim Fridley and #404 Dick Brodowski. Each of these cards presents as a high-grade example with sharp corners brilliant white borders clear images and clean surfaces. That's because each of these cards originates from a fresh find of virtually untouched 1952 Topps high numbers consigned by a family in southwestern Pennsylvania. The cards are truly a mystery; the family is not a sports family nor was the patriarch of the family ever a collector. Upon his passing the cards were discovered in a small pile tied together with a piece of twine amongst his childhood toys. When we submitted the cards to PSA for grading they deemed 25 of the cards - including the Mantle - to show evidence of trimming. The cards were unquestionably narrow some significantly and some just slightly. However the likelihood of the cards having been expertly trimmed and then included in a pile of otherwise perfect 1952 Topps cards was slim particularly given the fact that the cards originated with a family that is unfamiliar with the hobby much less the concept of "trimming." Based on this we submitted all the cards rejected by PSA to SGC for a second opinion making them aware of the entire story first. SGC reviewed the cards and determined that about half qualified for numerical grades. These ten however (along with the Campanella and Herman featured elsewhere in the auction) did not meet the minimum size required to receive a numerical grade. SGC does not feel the cards have been altered. However they do not measure up. Truly an example of "buy the card not the holder " these are ten attractive sharp 1952 Topps high numbers each from a fresh find of virtually untouched 1952 Topps high numbers each with the attributes of a high-grade card. Ten cards total.
