LATE NOTE: A scan of the MEARS LOA has been uploaded to this lot listing. Outstanding 1951 St. Louis Browns game-worn cap attributed to second baseman Bobby Young. Young spent three seasons with the Browns as their full-time second baseman. He moved to Baltimore with the team for 1954 and 1955 and was traded to Cleveland for Jank Majeski during the 1955 season. Young remained a Maryland resident passing away in 1985 of a heart attack at age 60. The cap is well-worn with a cracked brim that actually punctures the fabric on the inside. Heavily stained the Rawlings size 7 cap exhibits considerable wear on the leather interior band as well as a number of punctures inside the fabric of the cap itself. Young's signature appears on the inner brim though no other identifying markers can unequivocally tie the cap to Young (though we believe the provenance of Ted Patterson's collection and Young's place of residence make it extremely likely).
