NOTE: MEARS LOAs have now been uploaded to this lot listing. Between 1982 and 1985 Cracker Jack sponsored an "Old Timer's Classic " which was played at RFK Stadium in Washington DC. The brainchild of Atlanta Braves VP Dick Cecil the premise was to stage an authentic five-inning game that pitted old-timers against one another a more competitive game than the Old Timers exhibitions put on by many teams. The games were televised on ESPN and each player received $1 000 plus travel expenses for participating. The games got off to an auspicious start in 1982 when 75-year-old Luke Appling connected off Warren Spahn for a headline-making 275-foot home run over the fence in left field. Sadly the games did not have the support of Major League Baseball and so instead of using individual team logos and uniforms the organizers designed special American and National League uniforms for the players to wear. This tremendous full uniform jersey and pants likely dates to the 1985 game. In outstanding condition all the pieces come from the collection of Ted Patterson who likely attended the games and had obtained many of the uniforms for his collection primarily of Brooks Robinson Frank Robinson and Al Kaline. Robinson has signed the jersey on the breast the entire uniform attaining a grade of A10 from MEARS. Also included is a size 7 New Era cap from one of the games also signed by Robinson on the brim. The cap is well worn exhibiting very heavy use. The brim is cracked in multiple places and is quite fragile though the display remains strong.
