Born in Calabria Italy in 1912 Clemente Spampinato was a well-known sculptor in his home country in the 1930s and 1940s before moving to the United States and becoming an American citizen in 1947. He specialized in sporting and western sculptures known for capturing the beauty of movement. Spampinato created a bronze statue of the Navy "Goat" mascot that was installed in 1957 in Annapolis Maryland and created the enormous bronze statue of Bobby Jones now on permanent display in the Golf Hall of Fame in North Carolina. His works were exhibited dyring the 1980 Olympic games in Lake Placid. His sculptures are displayed in many museums and gallerys around the world. The 1953 "Blazin' One In" statue measures 4" x 11 1/2" x 10 1/4" tall a cast metal statue with a bronze finish. The piece appears in EX+ condition very slightly loose in its base but otherwise extremely strong. Unfortunately the original box has been lost to time. Still a highly desirable piece.
