Pair of large photographic premiums issued by the Blue Ribbon Malt company featuring members of the 1930 Chicago Cubs and White Sox. Each player is pictured in an individual photograph with facsimile signature and each piece is framed to a finished size of 40 1/2" x 14". Because we cannot examine the edges or reverse due to the frames we cannot determine whether or not the premiums have been mounted to a backing though it is entirely possible. The Cubs piece includes Hall of Famers Kiki Cuyler Gabby Hartnett Rogers Hornsby George Kelly Joe McCarthy and Hack Wilson amidst the 28 photos. The piece does exhibit some vertical creasing that appears flattened out likely from when it was mailed in its original mailing tube. Some additional wrinkles and very light surface abrasions are evident thought nothing distracting. It is the flatness of the piece and its stability in the frame that leads us to believe it has been mounted to a backing of some sort. The White Sox display includes 27 player photos with facsimile signatures including Hall of Famers Red Faber and Ted Lyons. While this example does not display the type of vertical creasing of the Cubs example there are several pronounced surface abrasions that while not interfering with the eye appeal of the piece are noticable particularly at close examination. Similar to the Cubs piece the backing of the frame prohibits us from examining the reverse and edges of the piece so we cannot determine unequivocally whether it has been mounted to a backing though its smoothness and flatness leads us to believe that it likely has.
