Tremendous card of Hall of Famer Willard Brown from the 1950-51 Toleteros issue. Iin addition to playiing in the Puerto Rican leagues Brown a native of Shreveport Louisiana played with the Kansas City Monarchs and briefly played with the St. Louis Browns in 1947. Brown was the first African-American player to hit a home run in the American League an inside-the-park shot off future Hall of Famer Hal Newhouser. Brown also took the first with Hank Thompson in a game that season the first time two African-American players played in a Major League game together. Brown struggled in the new environment however and was released by the Browns. From there he went to Puerto Rico winning the Triple Crown for the 1949-50 season the year before this card was issued. The card has been graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC but boasts stronger eye appeal light corner wear evident but not at all distracting. The technical grade is the result of some light staining and pencil writing on the reverse. The front of the card appears much stronger than the assigned grade.
