Exceptional original art poster designed by J.C. Leyendecker depicting two boys in dress clothes playing baseball. Measuring 19" x 25" the attractive art poster was produced to be used in an advertisement for "Right Posture" boys' clothing and appeared in magazines like the Saturday Evening Post (which utilized Leyendecker's illustrations multiple times for their cover art) in the 1920s. Joseph Christian Leyendecker was a German-American illustrator that is considered to be one of the foremost illustrators of the early 20th Century producing more than 300 covers for the Saturday Evening Post alone. Leyendecker created advertisements for some of the best-known American institutions notably Ivory Soap Procter & Gamble the US Army Navy and Marines the Boy Scouts of America Chesterfield Cigarettes and more. THe poster presents extremely well and has been dry mounted to a cardboard support with shrink wrap. Closer examiniation reveals a series of small tears and dirt around the edges. At some point a professional restorer stabilized the piece by mounting it to a linen backing something that could certainly be removed by a professional conservator. Other small blemishes are visible here and there but overall an outstanding and relatively rare poster by one of the preeminent American illustrators.
