Uncut card sheets are always a rarity but a 1958 Topps uncut sheet especially so; very few records exist of sheets from this set appearing at auction and we can find no record of a 1958 Topps uncut sheet with a Mickey Mantle besides this. This sheet has two; the two repeated rows on this sheet are an indication that the 1958 set contained at least 22 double-printed cards not commonly noted in checklists. Our reference materials indicate that like most other Topps sets of standard-sized cards press sheets consisted of 132 cards. That coupled with the nature of this sheet (borders are clearly missing having long ago been trimmed away) leads us to believe that this is actually a half-sheet with 66 cards (including the aforementioned two rows of 11 that are double-printed on the sheet). Many stars of the day are represented including Lindy McDaniel Vic Wertz Vern Law Don Larsen Jackie Jensen Ted Kluszewski Gil Hodges and Johnny Podres. Three Hall of Famers are represented two of whom appear on the sheet twice: Pitcher Jim Bunning second baseman Red Schoendienst (twice) and the aforementioned Mickey Mantle (also twice).Despite displaying extremely well the sheet itself is in poor condition with plenty of creasing several stains an abundance of surface wear and paper loss. The sheet itself has been professionally pressed to flatten some warping that resulted from the sheet being stored in a tube. As a result the sheet is currently being stored flat stabilized by a plastic poster frame and would easily be framed into a gorgeous display piece. Despite the aforementioned condition issues this sheet is colorful and bright an excellent representation of a classic 1950s Topps baseball issue complete with two copies of the card of the era"s most popular and collectible player. As far as uncut sheets are concerned a 1958 Topps sheet does not make itself available very often and a sheet with a Mantle is a true postwar rarity.
