While the 1970 and 1971 Topps "Super" issues got their name due to the large size of the cards the 1969 test issue got the "Super" name due to the super-glossy full-color photographs featured on each of the set's 66 cards. The card size is just 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" the round-cornered cards featuring an outstanding assortment of Hall of Famers and superstars from the era. The cards are scarce enough that their actual method of distribution is the subject of speculation; some believe the cards were issued in packs as a limited geographic test while others theorize that the cards were inserted into regular 1969 Topps packs in certain areas. Regardless the cards are far more scarce than the Topps "Super" issues of 1970 and 71 and are considerably more desirable.
