It is almost as if outfielder Fred Lynn had two careers punctuated by the strike season of 1981. Lynn broke into the majors in legendary fashion winning both the Rookie of the Year and the MVP with the 1975 Boston Red Sox batting .331 with 21 home runs and 105 RBI and playing flawless defense in center field. Lynn continued in that fashion playing in nine consecutive All-Star games his career-best season likely 1979 when he led the league with a .333 batting average and had career-high totals with 39 home runs and 122 RBI. At the end of the 1980 season however the Red Sox traded Lynn to California for Jim Dorsey Joe Rudi and Frank Tanana. Lynn struggled to adjust to his new environment hitting .219 in the strike-shortened 1981 season. He then rebounded a career highlight including hitting the first grand slam in All-Star game history off Atlee Hammaker in 1983. Lynn signed as a free agent in 1984 with Baltimore where he would remain for the next three seasons hitting 23 home runs in each year. He was consnstent reliable and a fan favorite. Presented here is a 1987 Orioles road jersey worn by Lynn his name emblazoned on the reverse his number 19 present on both sides. In outstanding condition the jersey has received a perfect grade of A10 from MEARS. An exceptional jersey from a superstar outfielder who for the first part of his career was considered by many to be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame. LOA from MEARS.
