Spectacular panoramic postcard measuring 21 3/4" x 4 7/8" picturing the entirety of Redland Field as photographed from high atop the left-field bleachers. The caption in the photo reads "Opening Game Cincinnati National League Park Cincinnati vs. Chicago " in an elegant script type. The game in question was played on Thursday April 11 of 1912 and christened the new Redland Field (which later became Crosley Field) with a 10-6 Cincinnati victory. Frank Smith started for Cincinnati against King Cole of Chicago neither making it through the 4th inning as Chicago scored five runs in the top of the third Cincinnati answering with six in the bottom of the fourth. Everyone in the Reds lineup had at least one hit except the pitchers and all but the pitchers and catcher Larry McLean drove in at least one run. The postcard though entirely intact is in poor condition - the paper is extremely sturdy and solid but surface dirt is plainly visible on both sides along with staining along the top edge of the photo. The postcard suffers from light but visible creasing some minor edge tears (and a more pronounced one at the left edge) and is actually quite interesting in that it has been postally used. Printed on the reverse of the card is the line "This card can be rolled instead of folded for mailing " and indeed it was rolled - it's been stored in a roll most likely for its entire life as there are no signs of folding. For protection we have elected to keep it rolled and it will ship stored in a small mailing tube (though we will put the tube in a box). Despite all the wear the image is clean and crisp and could likely be professionally cleaned and flattened with little effort.
