1954 and 1955 University of Cincinnati college yearbooks each featuring a young Sandy Koufax future Hall of Famer. Koufax was a starting forward on the freshman basketball team and when his basketball coach Ed Jucker needed pitchers for the baseball team he also coached Koufax volunteered. A hard-throwing lefty with no control Koufax finished his first college season with 51 strikeouts in 31 innings - and 30 walks. He continued to improve and by the end of 1954 Koufax had dropped out of Cincinnati and joined the Dodgers (where he transferred briefly to Columbia).
