Stunning rare cabinet photo featuring the 1906 New York Giants team in uniform posed in front of a full grandstand. The players each wear their "NY" uniforms with the exception of Sammy Strang who is wearing his 1906 team-issued "World's Champions" uniform which the Giants only wore in 1906 after winning the 1905 Championship. The players are identified at the bottom of the photo which is credited to The Towest Co. of Los Angeles. Oddly prizefighter Jim Jeffries also appears in the photo though Christy Mathewson does not leading to speculation that this photo was taken during some sort of exhibition or barnstorming game. The photo measures approximately 8" x 5 5/8" and is mounted to 9 3/4" x 7 3/4". The photo and the mount both exhibit considerable wear the photo displays discoloration at the edges (noticeably at the top) and foxing in the border area and in the photo itself. The mount is missing three of four corners and is marred by five pinholes around the edges. The reverse has remnants of another team photo likely transferred to the cardboard due to moisture. Despite all this a rare and desirable early team photo. Subjects identified in the photo are as follows: Top Row (L-R): Dummy Taylor Rube Vickers (who never played with the Giants) Spike Shannon Don MCGann Hooks Wiltse Bill Dahlen Art Devlin Cecil Ferguson Jim Jeffries (HOF) W.H. Berry (Manager of the "AC BB Club") George Browne Cy Seymour Red Ames. Bottom Row (L-R): Joe McGinnity (HOF) Frank Burke Matty Fitzgerald "Sheay " John McGraw (HOF) Roger Bresnahan (HOF) Aleck Smith and Jack Hannifin. An outstanding early photo of McGraw's champion Giants.
