Enormous panoramic team photo the highest quality photo we have handled. Measuring 30" x 21" in its frame a photo this large was likely produced for the players and team management the photo is extraordinarily well composed crystal clear the image contrast simply remarkable. The 1927 Pirates were an exceptional team nosing out the Cardinals and Giants in a tough three-way pennant race in the National League. The team was a pitching-heavy team that mostly hit for average led by Hall of Famers Paul Waner (.380 average 131 RBI) Lloyd Waner (.355 average) and Pie Traynor (.342 average 106 RBI). Sadly an excellent all-around team was no match for the powerful 1927 Yankees in the World Series where they were swept in four games. Depicted in the photo are the following: FRONT ROW (L-R): Paul Waner (HOF) George Grantham Harold Rhyne Donie Bush (Mgr) Barney Dreyfuss (HOF) Sam Dreyfuss Sam Watters Johnny Googh Clyde Barnhart Lloyd Waner (HOF) Joe Harris. MIDDLE ROW (L-R): Johnny Miljus Remy Kremer Vic Aldridge Heinie Groh Carmen Hill Michael Cvengros Pie Traynor (HOF) Glenn Wright Lee Meadows Earl Smith Emil Yde Roy Spencer. BACK ROW (L-R): Doc Crandall Chic Fraser (scout) Bill Hunchman (scout) Jewel Ens (coach) Adam Comorosky Fred Brickell Walt Tauscher Kiki Cuyler (HOF) Joe Cronin (HOF) Joe Dawson and Dick Bartell. Photos as extraordinary and attractive as this do not make themselves available very often. While the frame prevents us from examining the very edges and reverse the piece displays as EX/MT to NM with what could be a light wrinkle or possibly a very thin tear at the left edge though magnification can not tell us for certain mentioned here simply for the sake of accuracy as it does not interfere one bit with the tremendous image. The photo is literally clear enough to read the seat numbers in the background and pick out individual blades of grass in the foreground; one can literally make out the lettering on a crunched-up package of Beech-Nut tobacco that lies on the ground in front of Donie Bush's feet. An extremely significant photo.
