Tremendous three-dimensional advertising display for Narragansett Lager featuring Boston sportscaster Curt Gowdy and an unnamed ballplayer set inside a stylized color television the grandstands of Fenway Park in the background. The display which measures 20" x 30" displays the 1952 Red Sox home games being telecast along the bottom of the sign with a dial that can be adjusted so that the window displays whatever team the Red Sox were playing that day. The player inside the television screen once held a baseball bat that could be moved up and down in the window; an electric light shone inside the "television screen" to further illuminate the screen presumably so that it would look more like a television. The bat and light are of course missing from the piece which is quite elaborate and spectacular regardless of the missing elements. The piece does exhibit considerable wear notably around the edges but also at the surface in the form of staining and surface abrasion along with some age-related yellowing at the top section of the sign. Regardless of the wear an exceptionally attractive and elaborate Red Sox beer advertisement one we have not encountered before featuring legendary broadcaster Curt Gowdy. From the Ted Patterson collection it should be noted that Gowdy was Ted's first employer.
