Extraordinarily rare "fielding" pose variation from the 1907 Dietsche Postcards set issued in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers' appearance in the 1907 World Series. Two Cobb poses were included with the issue - one more common example picturing Cobb at bat and a second picturing him fielding. The fielding pose for some reason is far more difficult to obtain than its counterpart. The theory of course is that the "fielding" pose was made available in 1907 but was replaced in subsequent printings while the "batting" pose was included in both 1907 and 1908. Indeed according to the population reports of PSA 50 examples of the "batting" pose of Cobb's Dietsche issue have been graded against just 12 of the "fielding" pose. Unquestionably this is a rare card. In addition while there are a number of different postcards issued in 1907 that feature Cobb this is generally considered to be the earliest of them all making it frequently considered to be his rookie card. This example is a new discovery found along with a larger group of Dietsche Tigers featured elsewhere in this auction among a vintage collection of non-sports postcards. The consignor conducted some research into the value of the issue in general and was obviously pleased to learn he was in possession of the more rare of the two Cobbs. He shipped the postcards off to PSA where this one was assessed the grade of GOOD 2 due to edge chipping most notably along the right. Some very modest surface wear is also evident though little wear is apparent beyond that. A very rare "fielding" pose of Ty Cobb one of the hotter cards in the hobby often considered Cobb's "rookie" card.
