I have one to sell!
Interesting 1941 press release issued by Samuel Goldwyn Studios in 1941 discussing potential casting for the role of Lou Gehrig in an upcoming film about the Yankee hero. The release suggests that a poll was sent to sportswriters and major league baseball players asking for input on who should play the role of Gehrig with 27 different actors nominated including Gary Cooper Spencer Tracy Pat O'Brien Cary Grant John Wayne former pitcher Waite Hoyt and others. Quoted at the end of the release the "blonde and pretty sport cartoonist on the Philadelphia Bulletin" said "If I were casting this picture the role would go to Gary Cooper without an argument!" Of course Cooper did receive the role the great baseball film Pride of the Yankees released in 1942 and produced by Samuel Goldwyn. The press release is in excellent condition some minor discoloration of the top third likely a result of storage. An excellent two-page release tying together sports and Hollywood memorabilia.
