The technical grade of AUTHENTIC has been assessed by SGC due to the issue of "peripheral ink" having been added to the card likely a touch at the bottom-left corner. The N300 Mayo's issue is plagued by chipping of the black borders leading less scrupulous collectors and sellers to occasionally experiment with adding color in an effort to disguise such chipping. Third-party grading companies typically catch such games as was the case with this card of Hall of Fame catcher Wilbert Robinson. The problem in this case is that the card itself was beautiful one of the finest examples we have encountered. The image quality is splendid and very little wear is evident at the corners and edges of the card. Of 29 cards graded by SGC just four have graded above VG/EX; we feel confident that this card would easily have graded at that level without having to disguise whatever chipping existed on the card. The result is quite possibly the finest example of this card that the hobby has to offer; certainly a card where the minor alteration should be ignored in favor of appreciating the card's fantastic eye appeal.
