In his prime Heinie Zimmerman produced an exceptional Triple Crown season for the Chicago Cubs batting .372 with 14 home runs and 104 RBI. Zimmerman also led the league with 207 hits and 41 doubles 318 total bases and a slugging percentage of .571. Despite this he finished just 6th in the MVP voting behind Larry Doyle Honus Wagner Chief Meyers teammate Joe Tinker Bob Bescher and Bill Sweeney. Using modern analytics only Wagner had a better season than Zimmerman (out of that group of six - Christy Mathewson posted a WAR of 8.0 that season and several American Leaguers posted WAR numbers above 10). Zimmerman remains in our opinion one of the more underrated players of his era.
