An outstanding document of the post-baseball career of Honus Wagner one of the greatest players in the game's history. After his playing career ended Wagner engaged in a number of business ventures including the sporting goods store bearing his name. While not a going concern for long the chain left behind this interesting promotional piece: an oversized ( 7 3/4" x 3 3/8") matchcover. This example features the cover alone the matches having never been attached and the striker having never been folded. Possibly a pre-production piece it is well-worn nonetheless folded several times with corner and edge wear along with creasing in sports. The striker has not obviously been used. An unusual piece commemorating the career of one of the game's legends.
