I have one to sell!
Undoubtedly the second-most interesting game-used bat we have offered a gorgeous side-written Chuck Miller Spalding pro-model bat issued circa 1909. Miller was an outfielder who managed 40 major league games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1913 and 1914 with a minor league career that isn't as easy to document likely given his common name. Miller played in Houston of the Texas League in 1921 and 1922 however the side writing on the bat reflecting a 2/12/22 date. The labeling period of the bat itself a Spalding Gold Medal model is roughly 1909. This is not however unusual as the return date on the bat does not necessarily reflect the bat's use date as deadball era players often used the same bats for years. Additionally handle dimensions were larger and bats heavier during the deadball era two factors clearly present here (the bat weighs 38.1 ounces now and 38 ounces is also side written on the barrel). The bat has taken on an extraordinary patina with many ball marks visible on the barrel along with cleat marks. The handle was once taped in a spiral pattern with grain swelling that has been repaired with nails - nearly 100 of them in fact! The left barrel has been sanded and planed to receive the factory side writing "2.12.22 38 oz C. Miller Houston Texas" in vintage grease pencil. An extraordinary deadball era bat likely used by a major league player in the early 1900s. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA.
