Dick Schaap was a legendary sportswriter author television journalist and broadcaster. He began his career in 1964 as a columnist with Newsweek eventually becoming editor of SPORT magazine. He was a correspondent with the NBC Nightly News and the Today Show ABC World News Tonight 20/20 was the host of Schaap One on One with ESPN Classic hosted the radio program The Sporting Life with Dick Schaap on ESPN Radio and wrote a number of best-selling sports books. During his career Schaap earned five Emmy awards the Associate Press’ Red Smith Award and was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. He passed away tragically in 2001 due to complications from hip replacement surgery. We have been fortunate enough to have received on consignment a grouping of documents photos awards manuscripts and scrapbooks that originated with Schaap’s estate. Outstanding original artwork created by Mort Gerberg who worked with Schaap on the book Joy In Mudville. Entitled "Dick Schaap: A Man For All Seasons " the illustration measures 11" x 14" and depicts Schaap surrounded by books computers televisions and the like carrying with him the implements of just about every sport. The illustration is signed by Gerberg and dated August of 2002 which is after Schaap's passing. The piece is framed in a 20" x 22" metal frame and the matte has been signed by a host of celebrities and dignitaries 42 in total.
