Dated July 1 1932 this Oakland Oaks payroll check for $300 made out to star pitcher Fay Thomas. Thomas played two seasons for the Oaks winning 24 games and then moved on to the Los Angeles Angels for 1933 where he became a star winning 20 games four times in five seasons including a spectacular 28-4 record in 1934. Thomas spent parts of four seasons in the majors (including both his seasons with the Oaks 1931 and 1932). He pitched in 49 games with the 1935 St. Louis Browns before going back to Los Angeles in the Pacific Coast League where he remained through 1941. Thomas also played the role of Christy Mathewson in the classic baseball film Pride of the Yankees. This green Oakland Oaks check is in excellent condition folded once two-thirds of the way across the check (ostensibly to fit in an envelope) endorsed by Thomas on the reverse and signed on the front by Oaks" president Victor "Cookie" DeVincenzi and secretary Herb McFarlin. This is an outstanding memento from one of the Pacific Coast League"s greatest pitchers and most storied franchises. Includes Basic LOA from James Spence Authentication.
