Gorgeous 8x10" image of Ty Cobb from the Detroit News archive dated to 1927. A smiling Cobb appears in his Athletics uniform white elephant on his left breast. With his ferocious and hard-nosed reputation a photo of Cobb with such a broad grin is unusual and the detail in this photo is striking. The photo does exhibit considerable wear though most is restricted to areas away from the actual image. Some creasing and folding is evident one crease having developed into a tear at the left edge of the photo not visible on the front but repaired with a strip of clear tape on the reverse. Light background masking appears to have been removed from the photo at some point and an area of slight discoloration is visible at the bottom edge likely due to some sort of adhesive backing. Neither issue interferes with the beauty or clarity of the photo. The reverse also bears various editorial markings and stamps along with some light soiling. Simply a wonderful image of Cobb taken near the tail end of his stellar career.
