Published by the Philadelphia Sporting Writers' Association an outstanding illustrated guide to the 1929 American League Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Each page includes an illustration of one of the team's players along with some biographical information on that player clearly a precursor to the modern-day official team yearbooks yet not published by the team itself. The 1929 Athletics are one of the most widely-collected teams of its era; their 104-46 record carried them to the World Series behind dominant offensive performances by catcher Mickey Cochrane (.331 batting average) first baseman Jimmie Foxx (.354 average 33 home runs) and outfielders Al Simmons (.365 average 34 home runs and 157 RBI) Bing Miller (.331 average) and Mule Haas (.313 average 82 RBI) with a significant contribution off the bench by Jimmy Dykes (.327 average 13 home runs and 79 RBI). Dominant pitching from Lefty Grove (20-6 3.60 ERA) George Earnshaw (24-8 3.29 ERA) and Rube Walberg (18-11 3.60 ERA) contributed to an astonishing 70 complete games from its starting pitchers. A wonderful seldom-seen memento from one of the game's greatest teams.
